Place of Honour Dec 2011 - zaterdag 10 december 2011

The December place of honor is a special one.
It is the moment of closing of another annual Babellissimo collection.
The special place of December is therefore a good time to reflect on a designer who managed to built a fine collection during the year and places a final masterpiece on top of it.
The 2011 place of honor of December goes to Mirabella who designed a dress in traditional Christmas colors.
Her evening dress of knitted Angora is elegant and comfortable. A perfect dress for a relaxed Christmas indoors and in case you have to go out for the yearly Christmas family dinner she has added a black leather bolero jacket as a formal variation to the whole.
This creation that is part of the outstanding M & M Fashion Collection made me curious about the designer behind the designs.
Time to visit this talent for an interview.

BABELLE IN CONVERSATION WITH MIRABELLE

You have chosen Mirabella as your designername. Is it your real name?

Mirabella is not my own name, but it sounds a bit like it. My name is Mireille, and my mom calls me Mirabella now and then. I wanted a name that sounds a bit like my own name , and besides that I think Mirabella is a beautiful name.

We are delighted that you've created a name for your own collection: M & M Fashion.
How did you get that name and what does "M & M 'stand for?

At primary school I had a friend whose name began with a 'M'.
We always said that if we're grown up, I would design the clothes, and she would put them together.
M & M Fashion would be our brandname. When I decided to choose a brandname for my Babellissimo collection, M&M fashion came back to my mind.

You've been participating Babellissimo since Februari 2011. Are you involved with fashion in other ways? Are you following sewing lessons or do you design your own clothes?

I've recently learned to work with the sewing machine and I've already made several doll clothings. I always have great ideas about what to create, it just has not come so far to really make it happen.

What inspires you when you start designing? Do you need an idea to start with , do you have preferences that form the base for your designs?

I usually get inspired by the things that surround me. Sometimes I see new colors, fabrics and patterns, and then I think, 'that's nice, that's what I use for a new outfit'. When I'm completely uninspired, I just start with doing something and the idea will come up automatically.

When we take a look at your impressive collection, we notice that your designs are generally very wearable. Do you have a special audience in mind or do you design clothing that you'd like to wear yourself?

There is not really a special target group that I have in mind while designing, but I do think that my designs need to be uncomplicated. I prefer to design dresses and there are a lot of possibilities to do so. Some of my designs I would like to wear, especially the beautiful long dresses.

You're only 14 years old, what kind of education do you follow? And when you think about the future, what would you like to do? Do you have ambitions in fashion?
What would you like to become?

I'm in the fourth year of bilingual high school, and I want to become a journalist or a writer. It seems like fun to write columns or become a (fashion) magazine editor. So at least I would like to write and preferably to travel around the world while writing.

In what ways do you become informed about fashion and trends?

I don't read a lot of fashion magazines, I often read Libelle-magazine (Dutch women magazine). I also like to read fashion blogs on the web.

Who's your favourite fashion designer and why are you attracted by her/his designs?

Frankly I have no favorite designer.

At Babellissimo your designs are meant to be worn by me. For which celebrity would you like to design a creation?

It would be great when celebrities wear my designs, but there isn't someone in particular I would like to design for. I think it would be cool to design hats for the Queen.

I will pose in your creation and your creation will definitely be worn by me at Christmastime.
What are you going to wear during the holidays?

I'll put on a nice dress with matching jewelry.

Do you have any suggestions to improve Babellissimo?

There's only one mannequin-Babelle to download, only one pose. I think it would be fun when you're posing in different ways.
And we will surely take care of that one! Thank you for the interview, Mireille! At least we hope that you will continue your collection at Babellissimo and that goes for anyone who already has built a collection on the site.
Keep going and maybe you end up with an interview on this site next year.
